A recent study has shown that each year in the U.S., an average of twelve high school and college football players die during practices and/or games. The study found that heart condition, heat and non-traumatic causes of death are twice as common as injury-related death.
Over 240 football deaths have been recorded between July 1990 and June 2010 according to the data provided by the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research, 100 being a cause of an underlying heart condition and 38 being heat-related.
Some of these deaths can be prevented.
